Everyone else can lose weight, except me… Have you ever felt that from birth you may not have been as blessed as your relatives and peers? The body can be an incredible biological machine that needs still some knowledge to understand it. Even knowing most of it processes, each of our respective bodies are very different. Whatever your genetics, you are different from your parents and are different from your kids. Regardless the amount of genetics that relate you to your relatives, your life exposure is the second main factor that differentiates you. Emotional environment, foreign particles, climate, social evolution, response to stress and myriad of others, is a constant differential to have your body functioning not like others. That said, you have the right to ask yourself, why am I overweight when my behavior regarding food consumption is not different than those around me.
Without trying to hurt or provoke you, I will start by saying: There is no such thing as a body type for an overweight condition. As far as we can go in the past, overweight was part of a daily problem for some. The difference with today is the number of overweight individuals in our society. So pushing for a moment genetics to the side, what changed from the size of our grandparent’s condition to what we are today and where our kids will go? Without too many specifics to be understandable, let us see together.
Is it physical human evolution? Yes maybe, but we cannot relate on that, because an evolution cannot be in one or two generations. Also being not a scientist or not wanting to stray from the simple question, it is better for our understanding to not approach this topic. Did our ancestors eat as much as we do today? No, that is a big one. If you talk to your grandparents, or do some research, their daily intake of food was less. Think about how often we consume meat products, how big each size is, how heavy is the amount of sugar or salt we ingest, how many dairy product we may consume. All those wonderings come to one unique question. What are we doing to our body, and what path are we forging in the growth process of our descendants?
Was food the same? Personally myself I don’t know. But from what I know today, we are removed from food production. I go to the supermarket, and when I need food to be there right now, how can it be without preservative, special packaging, fancy display to have attractive product including radiation, colorant and dipped in some oily or sugary liquid?
Does my body recuperate? Each morning before we get up and every night when coming to rest, we should reflect on our physical body. Think about what it has endured and what it will endure in the upcoming hours. Reflect on the amount of stress, airborne or physical exposure to foreign toxic elements.
There is such a multitude of questions to answer, that it will be so difficult to answer each of them specifically. Equally, the intent of this article is not to scare you and have you drop your arms when you need to work on yourself.
What I’m saying is that each individual is unique so to control your weight it should be treated uniquely. What I will say with no doubt when you honestly reflect, is that you are the one who knows yourself best. Knowing that, you can at least start to take responsibility. No magic solution is out there, if somewhere it was hard on your body to put weight on, it should be hard on you to remove it. Any diet may not fit you because of your individuality. If an individual is consuming a daily caloric amount normal for his age and size, and is still gaining or not regulating his body weight, it is maybe a response to external elements, such as an allergy that triggers fat retention. If the habitual consumption is the allergy and if that trigger is removed from the diet or life style, that possibly completely and for a while, the body will self regulate. On the other hand all the New Year’s resolutions, exercises and money spending will only deceive you.
So start to listen yourself, change what you may intuitively know, it may work, or get the right help to have your weight in control without dreams or disillusions.
